Steelfast Modular Chassis

DJI_0467 2.JPG

DEVELOPED BY MODFLOOR PTY LTD from experience gained in over three decades of international light gauge steel framing manufacture and 15 years of modular housing experience the light gauge steel system is changing the way chassis are constructed for modular buildings.

Over the past three years, the chassis has been further developed and refined and is now a key element of the STEELFAST manufacturing system. Manufactured on our custom rollforming machinery eliminating heavy hot rolled steel components even for multi-level modular construction.  The system does not require any measuring, cutting or welding and construction time is substantially reduced so modular chassis can now be assembled by unskilled labour in under three hours with little or no training.

Strength and rigidity has been proven by independent testing with deflection reduced to 2-3 millimetres eliminating the need for additional frame bracing and dramatically reducing the need for on-site repairs after delivery.   The combination lifting and transport bracket is reusable further reducing cost and manufacturing time.   Download the independent load test here.

Perimeter beams have pre-punched and pre-drilled tabs positively locating joists that are pre-punched with large holes for installation of plumbing, electrical and waste services.

STEELFAST chassis are typically 40% to 50% lighter than a welded chassis and are manufactured from ZinMag 310 steel offering corrosion warranties of up to 50 years.

ZINMAG 310 STEEL

ZINMAG ZM 310 steel offers 7-10 TIMES MORE corrosion resistance than standard GI steel.

Testing in Australia under ASTM B117-19 (the method to evaluate the corrosion resistance of materials and coatings) ZinMag 310 was found to be totally rust, corrosion and delamination free after 2,000 hours of testing.      General rules can be applied to estimate the equivalence between salt spray test hours and real-life exposure suggesting that 24 hours of salt spray testing can be roughly equivalent to one year of exposure in a marine environment. On this basis 2,000 hours of successful testing relates to many years of strong corrosion resistance.  Download the independent corrosion test here

THE COATING

Manufactured to AS1397:2011, the ZINMAG ZM310 steel used in the manufacture of the chassis is coated with a zinc-aluminium-magnesium alloy that is highly resistant to corrosion. These alloys have been developed to provide a breakthrough solution in surface corrosion and cut edge protection suitable for aggressive environments.

HOW IT WORKS

The magnesium in the zinc-aluminium system accelerates the formation of a highly resistant crystalline film which is extremely stable protecting against corrosion. With the addition of magnesium to aluminium, ZinMag ZM 310 stabilises the self-sacrificial corrosion of zinc on the coated surface and on scratches or cut edges that can occur during manufacturing or installation on-site.

THE BENEFITS

The magnesium changes the corrosion mechanics offering improved cut edge corrosion performance with significantly improved corrosion resistance in harsh environments, including chemical and marine environments.   Modular customers benefit from a steel chassis offering many maintenance free years and long term corrosion warranties.
